MTB 201: Intro to Technical Riding

$165.00

Would you consider yourself an intermediate rider? We know the term is rather broad but basically if you aren’t brand new (if so, see our 100 level classes) and you don’t feel particularly advanced or totally proficient in the wide variety of skills required to excel at mountain biking, you could probably describe yourself as “intermediate”. If this is you then consider signing up for our 200 level series of classes.

In this 201 class students can expect to learn a foundation for everything they need to feel comfortable and confident on intermediate trails (blue & some black). We offer many skills, drills, and tips in a fun and safe environment so you can work to improve the execution and timing of some of the more complex and fun skills in mountain biking like cornering, wheel lifts, navigating technical terrain and so much more. You can also expect some “fun” homework so you can continue building and refining your skills well after the session ends.

  • Prerequisites for this class:

    • A desire to grow and refine your skills for riding mountain bikes

    • MTB 102 or equivalent / the ability to perform the skills listed in MTB 101 & 102

    • You can ride most or all of the green-rated trails you encounter

  • Click here to read more about how you can prepare for your lesson

  • Duration: 3 - 3.5 hrs, depending on class size (>2 students but <7)

  • Cost: $165

  • Location: Exact meeting location will be sent upon registering but you can expect one of Bellingham’s beautiful local parks

MTB 201 will cover topics like these:

  • Bike Set-up

  • Body position for technical riding

  • Braking skills for higher speeds and variable surfaces

  • “North Shore” bails (early exit off elevated features or when there is exposure)

  • Climbing and descending skills for blue-level trails (average or 10% grade trails, max 15% grade)

  • Techniques for finding balance and control on off-road surfaces that may be loose, bumpy, or muddy on trails and occasionally bridges around 24” wide

By purchasing this item, you agree to our terms and policies which can be viewed here.

Registration may close 24 to 48 hours before class start time, depending on class size.
