MTB 201: Intro to Technical Riding

Would you consider yourself an intermediate rider? We know the term is rather broad but basically if you aren’t brand new (if so, see our 100 level classes) and you don’t feel particularly advanced or totally proficient in the wide variety of skills required to excel at mountain biking, you could probably describe yourself as “intermediate”. If this is you then consider signing up for our 200 level series of classes.

MTB 203: Roll-Downs and Drops Foundations and Progressions

This intermediate course is designed to get students progressing their skills for roll-downs and drops on some of our favorite features for learning on Galbraith Mountain. This class is a perfect next-step for taking all the skills you’ve learned in our “grassroom” sessions (at a local park) to practice in real-life scenarios on the trails. You probably know how much “sessioning” features can help you progress so that’s what this class is all about. If you didn’t know, “sessioning” is when you repeat a particular section of trail, often one that is challenging, seems to interrupt flow, or is just rad, taking various approaches until you start to feel your confidence rise and technique improve. Plus, riding certain features repeatedly with our encouraging coaches along with some direct video feedback is super fun and will provide you with helpful support. So while this won’t be a ride that clocks a lot of miles, it’s sure to help you build your technique in a fun and constructive way.

We know that lots of learning happens in our “grassroom” sessions at a local park but we also want our students to practice these skills in real-life trail scenarios. By piecing together all the skills you worked on in the 200-level series you will start to feel the thrill of flowing blue trails with confidence and ease. Plus, riding these local trails with our encouraging coaches is super fun, and will provide you with helpful support like spotting (where possible) and a “tow-in” (or wheel to follow) through sections of trail.

MTB 302: Pumping and Jumping Foundations and Progressions for Catching Air

This intermediate course is designed for riders who are eager to build a solid foundation for catching air (and landing safely) and who want to learn the progressions needed to keep that foundation growing. We are big believers in the benefits of riding a pumptrack in order to hone your jumping (and many other) skills. A pump track is a circuit of rollers, banked turns, and features designed to be ridden completely by riders "pumping" (generating momentum) by dynamic body movements, instead of pedaling. The art of pumping is dynamic, powerful, and fun. If done properly, pumping helps a rider gain momentum without pedaling, which increases flow and efficiency on any bike - a perfect foundation for jumping.
