Workshop Descriptions:

Injury Prevention (and resilience for mountain athletes):

Radical Roots MTB has teamed up with Achieve Your Peak Physio to bring you 3 Winter Workshops to address three problem areas riders face. The goal of these indoor / off-the-bike workshops is to to understand these common problems and prevent these from keeping you off your bike or fully enjoying your ride.

  • Injury Prevention Workshop #1: Back Pain on the Bike; Neck, Upper Back & Lower Back - Thursday, January 22nd @ 4:30pm

    • Please bring a Yoga Mat to this workshop

  • Injury Prevention Workshop #2: Stronger Shoulders on the Bike; Stability, Control & Injury Prevention - Thursday, February 19th @ 4:30pm

  • Injury Prevention Workshop #3: Injury-Proof Knees for Mountain Bikers; Climb and Descend Without Pain - Thursday, March 19th @ 4:30pm

Each of these workshops will address

Background

  • Basic anatomy of the joints and muscles

  • Discuss the stress that biking puts on each area

  • Most common injuries/overuse complaints I've seen in bikers

Why pain develops on the MTB

  • Why injuries/aches occur in mountain biking in each area

  • Specific description of each body area and break this down with climbing and descending

  • Discuss bike fit or equipment a bit

  • Posture of biking

Preventative Exercises

  • Mobility above and below the joint as well

  • Stability

  • Strength

  • Posture considerations

Crashing Carefully (and other indoor drills):

Yes! There is a way to crash or bail with more safety and grace. Let us teach you! Because mountain biking is an inherently dangerous sport and one way people get really good at riding is by getting really good at crashing.

In this indoor workshop, students will have the chance to practice skills for staying safe when crashes happen with the use of our squishy gymnastics pads and expert instruction by Coach Angi. Come join us so we can help you increase your fun while reducing your risk of injury with this helpful class.

We can also use the manual trainer indoors to practice a variety of wheel lifts with a helpful tool. So we have a variety of topics to cover all while covered and out of the winter elements.

All you need to bring is your helmet and a willingness to learn while having some fun. You can bring a bike if you want to but it won’t be necessary.

Options:

  • Thursday, January 26th at 5pm

  • Friday, Feb 13th at 5pm

*These are two options for the same workshop, students do not need to attend both.
